Our Story

The Oaks School was founded in 2018 with a vision to provide families with a Christ centered educational option that cultivates both academic excellence and character. What began with a group of approximately 80 students grew out of the shared desire of parents seeking something different for their children’s education.

With backgrounds in business and ministry, founders Josh and Ginger Hallmark brought together families who believed in building a school rooted in faith, purpose, and high expectations. In just its second year, The Oaks School grew to more than 100 students and has continued to establish itself as a strong and thriving learning community.

In 2020, The Oaks School received full accreditation through Cognia, formerly SACS, and the Alabama Independent School Association, AISA, affirming our commitment to academic quality and continuous improvement. This commitment was reaffirmed in 2025, when the school successfully completed the accreditation process once again.

As the school continued to grow, so did opportunities beyond the classroom. In 2024, The Oaks School joined AISA athletic competition, expanding opportunities to develop student athletes in teamwork, discipline, and leadership. In 2025, the school took an exciting step forward with the acquisition of the Oaks Athletic Complex, which includes a gym and twelve acres of land located off Exit 64 in Opelika, providing space for athletics, events, and future growth.

The name The Oaks School comes from Isaiah 61:3, which says,

“They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord, for the display of His splendor.”

This verse reflects our heart to see students firmly rooted, growing strong in faith and character, and living lives that glorify God.

Today, The Oaks School remains committed to building a culture that challenges students and teachers to grow and thrive in all that they are called to be, academically, spiritually, and relationally. Our story is still being written, and we are honored to partner with families as we prepare the next generation of leaders.
