At The Oaks School, our elementary program is designed to develop the whole child- academically, spiritually, and socially. Students master the fundamentals of reading, writing, and math through extended class blocks that allow time for deep understanding, meaningful practice, and individual support. Learning is hands-on, active, and engaging, combining interactive centers with small-group instruction guided by attentive and nurturing teachers. Alongside strong literacy and math foundations, students explore history and science in meaningful ways while being intentionally taught to grow in a love for God, our country, and one another.
To support individual growth, students use IXL, an interactive web-based learning tool, in the classroom and at home for math and language arts. Rather than assigning traditional written homework, teachers guide students in purposeful study, reading, and individualized IXL practice at home. This approach allows teachers to partner with parents and build accountability while reinforcing skills taught during the school day. Ongoing assessment and real-time data enable teachers to tailor instruction and support each student’s growth with confidence and clarity.
Spiritual growth is nurtured through daily worship as well as chapel and classroom teachings. Biblical truth, scripture, and stories from the Bible are woven into lessons throughout the day. Students are encouraged to grow in their faith and relationship with God. Their character is also being developed while learning how to build strong, respectful relationships with others.
Throughout the day, students enjoy breaks and time outdoors between classes, supporting healthy social development and joyful learning. This recreational time also allows opportunities for creativity and imagination to flourish. In the classroom, teachers intentionally build relationships with students, recognizing their strengths and creating opportunities for each child to grow in confidence and shine. Field trips throughout the year extend learning beyond the classroom and encourage curiosity, exploration, and family involvement.
With limited homework, children have the time to explore the outdoors, pursue extracurricular interests, and gather with family. The gift of a four-day school week provides space for students to develop their God-given gifts, creativity, and independence- without the fast-paced demands of a typical 5-day week school setting. This allows them to thrive both in and out of the classroom.
